Guangdong reports 1 new locally transmitted COVID-19 case

BEIJING – The Chinese mainland on Friday reported one new locally transmitted COVID-19 case in Guangdong province, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Saturday.

The same day also saw nine new imported cases on the mainland. Of them, five were reported in Guangdong, two in Sichuan, and one each in Liaoning and Shanghai.

Two new suspected cases and no new deaths related to COVID-19 were reported Friday, the commission said.

A total of 5,934 imported cases had been reported on the mainland by the end of Friday. Among them, 5,664 had been discharged from hospitals following recovery, and 270 remained hospitalized. No deaths had been reported among the imported cases.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland reached 90,954 by Friday, including 301 patients still receiving treatment, four of whom were in severe condition.

A total of 86,017 patients had been discharged from hospitals following recovery on the mainland, and 4,636 had died as a result of the virus.

There were three suspected COVID-19 cases on the mainland on Friday.

A total of 23 asymptomatic cases were newly reported, and 22 of them arrived from outside the mainland.

The sole local infection involved a 44-year-old man in Shenzhen in south China's Guangdong.

The man’s work involved boarding global freight ships in Yantian’s port area, said the district's headquarters on COVID-19 prevention and control.

Over 483.3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been administered in China as of Friday, the National Health Commission said

All of the 54 close contacts of the asymptomatic carrier have been quarantined and tested negative in nucleic acid tests.

The district is home to Yantian port, a pivotal foreign trade port in China.  

There were a total of 370 asymptomatic cases, of whom 349 were imported, under medical observation by Friday.

Over 483.3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been administered in China as of Friday, the National Health Commission said on Saturday. 

By the end of Friday, 11,829 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 210 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), while 50 cases had been reported in the Macao SAR, and 3,139 cases, including 15 deaths, had been reported in Taiwan.

A total of 11,547 COVID-19 patients in the Hong Kong SAR had been discharged from hospitals following recovery, while 49 had been discharged in the Macao SAR, and 1,133 had been discharged in Taiwan.
