Xi busy meeting world leaders

Editor's note: President Xi Jinping continued his busy schedule on Thursday as he held a number of bilateral talks with world leaders attending the 29th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand. He also met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Wednesday night after the conclusion of the 17th G20 Summit in Bali, Indonesia.

Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos

PRESIDENT XI JINPING:

・ China is ready to bring forward the friendship with the Philippines, carry on cooperation, and be jointly dedicated to rejuvenating respective national development, thus writing a new chapter of China-Philippines friendliness.

・ The two sides should keep deepening the synergy between their development strategies and strengthen cooperation in such areas as clean energy, education and public health.

・ China will expand the imports of more quality agricultural byproducts from the Philippines.

・ The two sides should take more practical measures for closer people-to-people exchanges and to consolidate the public foundation for bilateral friendship.

・ On the South China Sea issue, China and the Philippines should be committed to friendly consultations and appropriately deal with differences and disputes.

・ As developing countries in Asia, China and the Philippines should be strategically independent, uphold peace, openness and inclusiveness, and maintain the general direction of regional cooperation.

・ The two sides should work together to oppose unilateralism and acts of bullying, safeguard fairness and justice and maintain regional peace and stability.

PHILIPPINE PRESIDENT FERDINAND ROMUALDEZ MARCOS:

・ Xi's reelection as general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee will not only bring more stability for the country's future, but also will benefit the region and the world at large.

・ The Philippines looks to work with China to expand cooperation in areas including infrastructure, energy, agriculture and cultural exchanges to build a more steady and robust bilateral relationship.

・ The two sides should promote communications on maritime disputes, and the whole of the Philippines-China relationship should not be represented by disputes at sea.

・ The Philippines will continue to follow the one-China principle, adhere to an independent foreign policy and never take sides.

Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong

PRESIDENT XI JINPING:

・ China-Singapore relations have maintained sound development momentum. Good relations help the two countries work together in fighting the pandemic and helping the economy to recover, and inject positive energy into regional stability and prosperity.

・ The countries' ties are forward-looking, exemplary and of strategic importance. China stands ready to work with Singapore to advance their all-around cooperative partnership, which is progressing with the times, to make new strides.

・ China is willing to maintain high-level exchanges with Singapore and welcomes the city-state to be deeply involved in the nation's new development paradigm to promote high-quality bilateral cooperation.

・ The two countries should develop high-quality cooperation on the joint building of the Belt and Road, upgrade cooperative projects in digitalization and green development, conclude follow-up negotiations on a free trade agreement as soon as possible, raise the level of the countries' trade and investment liberalization, and facilitate people-to-people exchanges.

・ China is willing to work with Singapore to uphold regional unity and cooperation, oppose group politics, resist bloc confrontation, uphold regional economic integration and resolutely oppose decoupling and disruption of the industrial and supply chains.

・ It is hoped that both countries will jointly push for the implementation of the Global Development Initiative in the region.

SINGAPOREAN PRIME MINISTER LEE HSIEN LOONG:

・ Congratulations to Xi on his reelection as general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

・ Amid the current complex international situation, Singapore looks forward to deepening relations with China.

・ China's rise is unstoppable. A strong and friendly China will be positive to the region and the world, and is also conducive to realizing common development for small and medium-sized countries. Singapore always positively views China's development and is willing to participate in the Global Development Initiative.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida

PRESIDENT XI JINPING:

・ As close neighbors, both China and Japan are important countries in Asia and in the world, and they enjoy a great many shared interests and vast room for cooperation. The importance of Sino-Japanese relations has remained unchanged and will not change. China stands ready to work with Japan to strategically handle bilateral ties to build a relationship that meets the demands of the new era.

・ Both countries should treat each other with sincerity and good faith, abide by the principle of the four political documents, draw on historical experiences and view each other's development in an objective and rational manner. China and Japan should maintain in their policies the political consensus of treating each other as cooperative partners and seeing each other as no threat.

・ The questions related to history and Taiwan matter to the foundation of the countries' relations, and Japan should honor its commitments and properly handle them. China allows no other countries to interfere in its domestic affairs under any pretext.

・ In terms of maritime and territorial disputes, both countries should abide by the principles and consensus they reached and properly handle differences with political wisdom and responsibility.

・ The two should also adhere to strategic independence and good-neighborliness, resist conflict and confrontation, and practice true multilateralism to jointly deal with global challenges.

Japanese prime minister FUMIO KISHIDA:

・ As close neighbors, Japan and China pose no threat to each other. The two sides should and need to coexist in a peaceful manner.

・ Japan and China are interdependent in terms of development, and Japan welcomes China to make positive contributions to the world through its own development.

・ Japan-China cooperation has great potential, and the two countries bear important responsibilities for peace and prosperity in the region and across the world.

・ On the Taiwan question, Japan's commitments made in the Japan-China Joint Statement remain unchanged.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni

PRESIDENT XI JINPING:

・ China and Italy, as two ancient civilizations, should carry forward their traditional friendship, understand and support each other's core interests and major concerns, pursue common ground while shelving differences, expand consensus, and set an example for relations between countries with different social systems and cultural backgrounds.

・ The two sides are expected to tap into the China-Italy Government Committee and dialogue mechanisms to explore the potential of cooperation in such areas as high-end manufacturing, clean energy, aviation and aerospace as well as in third-party markets.

・ China remains committed to high-level opening-up, and it will import more quality products from Italy. The country welcomes Italy to be the guest of honor at the 2023 China International Consumer Products Expo.

・ The two sides should use the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan as an opportunity to step up cooperation on winter sports and industries.

・ China will continue to strengthen communication and coordination with Italy within multilateral platforms such as the Group of 20 and jointly respond to major challenges in areas such as the global economy.

・ Under the current circumstances, it is of great importance to promote steady growth of the China-European Union relationship, and it is hoped that Italy will play an important role in the EU's commitment to an independent and positive China policy.

ITALIAN PRIME MINISTER GIORGIA MELONI:

・ Italy does not approve of bloc confrontation, and it believes that countries should respect their differences and disagreements, strengthen solidarity, maintain dialogue and exchanges, and enhance mutual understanding.

・ The country looks to closely collaborate with China within the United Nations, the G20 and other frameworks to tackle the various pressing challenges in a more effective manner.

・ Italy is glad to see the events of the Year of Culture and Tourism being held, and it stands ready to continue advancing bilateral cooperation in such areas as trade and culture.
