DraftKings aims to launch online betting and casino in Alberta

(AsiaGameHub) – DraftKings has revealed its intention to introduce its online casino and sportsbook offerings to Alberta, pending the necessary regulatory authorization and licensing within the Canadian province.
Residents of Alberta are now able to pre-register for DraftKings’ casino and sportsbook platforms in anticipation of the market’s debut. The provincial government recently verified that Alberta’s regulated gaming market is scheduled to commence operations on 13 July.
Should it receive approval, Alberta will serve as DraftKings’ second Canadian online market, building on its expansion into Ontario in May 2022, which occurred shortly after that province launched its regulated iGaming sector.
Greg Karamitis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sports at DraftKings, stated:
We are thrilled about the prospect of growing DraftKings’ presence in Canada and introducing our online casino and sportsbook services to Alberta’s customers. Given that the expected launch coincides with the World Cup being held here in North America, it is a uniquely exciting time for sports enthusiasts in the province to interact with our platform.
A successful launch in Alberta would represent the 34th North American jurisdiction where DraftKings provides online sports betting, and the seventh where it offers online casino games.
The company has been steadily increasing its footprint throughout the region. In February, the Arkansas Racing Commission granted unanimous approval for a vendor license, enabling DraftKings to begin operations in Arkansas.
This licensing followed a collaboration with Southland Casino Hotel, which subsequently transitioned from its Betly-branded mobile sportsbook to the DraftKings platform.
Concurrently, FanDuel also secured authorization to enter the Arkansas market via a partnership with Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort.
As Alberta readies its regulated market, DraftKings is preparing for an early entry, consistent with its overarching strategy to expand across North America and leverage major sporting events to boost user participation.
